Hermetic Database (Late Antiquity, Renaissance)

This list of online resources is limited to the historical-critical study of Hermetism and related fields, with special reference to Late Antiquity (concretely, the History of Thought in the Eastern Mediterranean world) and the Renaissance (specifically, the History of Science in Europe). We have reflected those projects, researchers and specialized publications that, we believe, display a greater utility in the multidisciplinary study of theoretical-practical hermetism. Our goal is not to publish an exhaustive list of online resources, but a useful and orderly starting point for amateurs and scholars in the subject.

If you are a researcher or an editor whose field of study is circumscribed both in the historical-critical perspective and in the set of mentioned areas, do not hesitate to contact us (ivanelvira@studiahermetica.com), so we will appraise your inclusion. Naturally, if you do not want to be reflected in this list, let us know so we will withdraw your data asap. Also, if your academic affiliation has changed.

Currently (2018-), the countries that have a greater tradition in the historical-critical study of the History of Hermetic philosophy, focusing at all times on Antiquity and Renaissance, are Italy, France, United Kingdom and the United States. To a lesser extent, Germany, Belgium and Netherlands. Obviously, when we link a researcher to a specific country, we do so because of their academic affiliation, not their nationality.

This document is not in the form of an academic article. Its main purpose is to provide support for the undertaking of serious studies on the listed materials, so it will be subject to constant review.

Mr. Rodríguez Guerrero, editor of Azogue Journal, has been published in his current blog resources related to the History of Alchemy, aimed by the same spirit: https://buscandolapiedrafilosofal.wordpress.com/.

Fields of research covered: Coptology, Egyptology, History of Late Antiquity, Intellectual History of the Renaissance, Byzantine and Neo-Greek Studies, History of Alchemy, History of Magic, History of Astrology, History of Hermetism, History of Middle Platonism and Neo Platonism, History of Science, Greek and Latin Epigraphy and Paleography, Archeology of Hellenistic-Roman Egypt, History of Religions.
